Suikogaiden has you playing as Nash Latkje in a text based RPG. There are no random battles, no level ups, just pure story progression which all takes place during the same time period as that of Suikoden 2. During the game you will come across many characters from the series which you may or may not be familiar with already.
Nash Latkje, the protagonist controlled by the player and an agent of Holy Harmonia's Southern Border Defence Force, has been assigned to obtain information to either verify or disprove a rumour concerning the appearance of one of the 27 True Runes in the Jowston City States. During his travels, he encounters Sierra Mikain, a female vampire, who decides to accompany him on his journey. As a result, he soon becomes entangled in the larger conflict involving the events of Suikoden II.
However, for fans of the series, this game reveals to them some much-desired plot tidbits along with details relating to setting and characters that can make them drool. Although the plot is generally linear, there are different points at which the plot branches out depending on what choices you make, and certain choices can only be made if you have enough "Luck Points." Interestingly, you gain more "Luck Points" if you make choices that are considered to be more perilous.
How to save:
At any time in the game where a characters text box is displayed, press the Select button on the controller to bring up the menu. Save is the very first top most option. Once you press O on it, you will be taken to the memory card screen. Here, there are 8 boxes for you to save your game to, choose any box and press O. The small box that pops up is just comfirmation, Do you want to save? Yes/No. Select Yes and it will save the game for you.
