Hi-Octane was originally released for the PC. It combines classic futuristic shooters like Defender and Nintendo's StarFox with fast paced racing titles such as The Need for Speed or Pole Position. Many reviewers regarded it, however, as a rip-off of Psygnosis' now classic WipeOut.

Hi-Octane is a futuristic 3D racer featuring six unique hover-cars. Like many racing games, each vehicle varies in the areas of speed, attack power, and maneuverability; the KD-1 Speeder is a great all around car whereas Jugga is slower but packs a wallop in shields and firepower. Firepower comes in the form of mini-guns and rockets while pickups include weapon ammunition, boosts, and invincibility.

There are a variety of gameplay options including the Championship, Single Race, Death Match, and Clone Race. Championship is a hectic season-based tournament spanning Hi-Octane's nine tracks. Players will visit the Amazon Delta Turnpike, Shanghai Dragon, and the aptly named Slam Canyon on the road to victory. But watch out -- the tracks will morph and change shape right before your very eyes!

The Single Race option allows players to choose any track and either practice the layout or play without the hassle of the Championship. Death Match allows you and up to seven computer-controlled opponents to battle it out in a viscous arena! Whoever survives the firefight wins the match-up. Finally, the Clone Race is simply a time-trial against your own ghost car.

Additionally, there are a few multi-player options including the Split-Screen Single Race and Hot Seat. The Split-Screen Single Race is aptly named. Players choose a vehicle and a track and square off in a split-screen battle to the finish. Hot Seat allows up to seven people to play with one controller. Player one starts the match off. When the timer runs out, Player two's name will flash on the screen. After a three second countdown, Player one's job is to hand over the controller to the second player. Hot seat moves in this fashion until the race is over.

What are you waiting for? Get ready to kick some butt and take the prize with Bullfrog's Hi-Octane!

* Take on the road alone or race against a friend in multiplayer split-screen action
* Race to the finish line in one of six hover cars as you blast on your opponent with a variety of weapons

  Manufacturer's description:

Hi-Octane
The track fights back

This high intensity combat driven game puts you behind the wheel of heavy armed hovercars, competing against other drivers in a death defying competition of high speeds and hot lead. But you'll need to watch out more then just your back, because the track can be just as deadly as the hovercar in your rear view mirror.

9 different tracks - each with a mind of its own and just as deadly as your rivals. Blow away the competition with mini-games and missile launchers.
