The game starts with Mui and Popuri (a pink bunny with a ribbon. Looks similar to Mui) running along until they come across a strange area with a magical emblem on the ground. The two look up into the sky to find a beautiful girl descend to the ground in a radiant glowing orb. Eventually, Madoka (the girl from the light) awakens and she is in the home of the old Fillip Side inhabitant, Muu. "Fillip Side" is the name of the world in this game. Anyway, setting some details aside, you will end up saving Fillip Side from utter disaster and you will need to become a great chef to do so.
Throughout the game, you will find recipes and gather ingredients to make several dishes. They can be used for a number of different things, but the important recipes create items that allow Mui to change his shape! Mui can become a rocket, bridge, and other unusual objects to help Madoka progress through the story, but he can only transform at morphing points.
The game also functions like an hack-n-slash action RPG. Madoka will gather several power medals which allow her to change her persona. She can become a knight and a mage as well as other forms. When Madoka changes, so does Mui, giving Madoka a variety of different abilities she can change on the fly. Madoka can even summon special creatures to aid her. The effectiveness of her various forms change based on the scenario present, but you must watch how many Star Points (SP) you use because you can only carry a few items at a time. She also has a charge attack that deals more damage than her normal attack.
Pocket Kitchen. This option allows you to play a Purumui Purumui minigame via the Pocketstation.
STORY:
"Fillip Side...A world of lush beauty...A world of such magnificent splendor. The inhabitants of Fillip Side know of the legends of old...The stories about the battles between good and evil...The tales regarding the strange relics scattered across the land...but alas, that is all behind them now. It's been peaceful for so long, they thought that nothing could possibly go wrong. One day, two young inhabitants of Fillip Side, Mui and Popuri, decide to explore the field together. Their innocent playing causes them to stumble into a forest with a strange emblem on the ground. The two were no doubt curious and so their curiosity caused them to approach the emblem. Suddenly, they see a shining light up in the sky, but what's this? There's a girl inside! Her name is Madoka, and she doesn't exactly remember what she was doing or how she ended up in the forest. Since she seems to have some sort of amnesia, Mui and Popuri take her to the home of Muu where the four of them can live peacefully. However, little do Mui and Madoka know...fate has other plans...for them as well as all of Fillip Side!"
To try to put the plot into perspective a little more, Mui and Madoka are the chosen ones. Madoka is the knight that will strike down the evil that comes her way. Mui is like the shield. He assists Madoka anyway he can. Together, they must save Fillip Side from total chaos and ultimately foil the ambition of the diabolical Iibasu. They are guided by Aanisu, the light of Fillip Side, who helps the heroes prevent catastrophe. The story is very general and straightforward. While you meet several silly looking characters, the manual shows that the "key" characters are Madoka, Mui, Popuri, Muu, Koronisu, Aanisu, Shaina, and Iibasu.
CHARACTERS:
- Madoka: She is the girl with the reddish-pink hair and the girl who came from the orb of light. Madoka is a mostly silent protagonist. She doesn't really speak, but she has little voice clips from time to time...though mostly in battle. Many people in the world of Fillip Side view Madoka as this beautiful creature, and why shouldn't they? She is one of the few human-like (for all I know, she may not even be human) people in Fillip Side. She also has some serious style...what with all the jewelry she's packing. Jewels on the hands, feet (though not in the link shown) and even a dangling pendant. Though she mostly plays the role of a chef (carrying baskets of ingredients around), she has the look of someone highly majestic and upper class. She is kind and spirited and will help anyone who is in trouble. She is also the knight of justice, and the sword that will protect Fillip Side from harm. While it isn't exactly clear to me why she was floating in the orb of light, I surmise that she was in a deep sleep until the world needed her again.
- Mui: He is the little yellow guy with the blue markings on em'. Mui ordinarily could be found enjoying life to it's fullest and not worrying about the consequences. He seems as though he doesn't possess any real power of any kind. However, when he meets Madoka, everything changes. Mui is actually a very special kind of creature that can manipulate his physical appearance to suit any given situation. However, he must usually have special items to do so. He also possesses high magical abilities and when the need arises, he can combine with Madoka to make the two of them become one ultra powerful person. That power is given to Mui when he uses the power of the Power Medals. With his handy ability to morph and utilize the power of the medals, there is nothing that Mui and Madoka can't do!
- Popuri: Popuri is the pink creature with the ribbon on her head. I haven't sat down and translated too much, but even still, Popuri isn't really in too much of the game. She is close to Mui and the two of them always used to play together. Due to events in the story, Popuri is mostly absent for the entire game. She is abducted early on by Shaina, and together, the two of them do the evil bidding of Iibasu. However, Popuri can't control her actions and is actually being manipulated by Iibasu/Yevus. She is not to blame!
- Muu: Ah, the old and knowledgable Muu. He is the kind fellow who allowed Madoka into his home. He knows a thing or two about Koronisu and Iibasu and he will occasionally impart wisdom to your heroes. Of course, unless you understand Japanese, this is of little importance to you. He generally just lets you handle your business and doesn't interfere with your work. In the end, Muu will help your two heroes out.
- Koronisu: My god...I don't even know why this chick is a key character. Koronisu is the girl with the bluish-silver looking hair with her hands behind her back. I only remember seeing this girl once in the entire game and she didn't even mutter one word. I don't want to give it away here. Koronisu herself seemed like a good natured person, but for a long time, you won't see her. What happened to her? Where could she be?
- Aanisu: Aanisu is the woman with the angelic wings. She is the light of Fillip Side and will guide Madoka and Mui along the path of good. She tells the two about the Power Medals and that they need five of them in order to become strong enough to wield the "Master Medal", the only medal strong enough to defeat Iibasu. If she doesn't communicate to you whenever you obtain a medal, she will leave her messages in statues that look like her or in rare instances, she will communicate through telepathy. She is also known as "Mama Aanisu" or "Mother Aanisu", probably due to her benevolent role in the protection of Fillip Side. She seeks to protect her children.
- Shaina: Shaina is the girl wielding the wicked looking sword and has the odd pink creature beside her. If you look at Shaina, she appears to be the antithesis of Madoka and Mui doesn't she? Her pink friend is actually Popuri and together, the two of them act as the sword and shield of darkness, doing Iibasu's dirty work. While Popuri is at some rehearsal of some kind at the beginning of the game, Shaina abducts her and she acts as Shaina's assistant. She goes to the various locations where Power Medals are located and tries to stop you from obtaining all five. Her first act of aggression is when she destroys the bridge near the rehearsal area. By doing so, she thought that Madoka wouldn't be able to obtain the knight medallion, but Mui helps her obtain it.
- Iibasu * Baisu: Iibasu Baisu seems to be his whole name. He is also known as "Yevus" (a translation). He is a terrifying fiend who is rarely ever seen. He sends Shaina out to stop you from getting the Power Medals. In the meantime, he is buying time to try to unleash a devastating attack in the mighty space fortress, the Dreadnought, in which he resides. If he is allowed to have his way, Fillip Side is certainly doomed!
