Ranma 1/2: Battle Renaissance is a 3D Fighting game, developed by Atelier Double and published by Shogakukan Production, which was released in Japan in 1996.

Ranma 1/2 is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi with an anime adaptation. The story revolves around a 16-year old boy named Ranma Saotome who was trained from early childhood in martial arts. As a result of an accident during a training journey, he is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water, but hot water will change him back into a boy.

STORY:
It's a normal day at the Tendo Dojo when Kunou invites the Ranma gang to Kikaiga island. The Kunou family has bought the island and is building anamusement park on it.

When the group arrives, they find that Kikaiga island is a demon's lair, and that a legendary treasure called Shingouki is hidden within eight stones throughout the island. And so the characters each go out to search for the stones and claim the Shingouki before anyone else.

GAME MODES:
- Story mode:
Select a character, then travel around Kunou Island searching for the eight magic stones. The other seven characters must be fought to gather most of the stones, while others are obtained simply by reading signs around the island. There are also signs that teach many of the characters' attacks.

If you lose a fight, you can continue at the map of Kunou Island, or exit and save the game to contine from that point at any time using a Memory Card.

With all the stones gathered, you must face Rouge in the final battle for the Shingouki. Each character has their own CG ending movie.
- VS Mode: A two-player versus mode that keeps track of each player's wins and losses with each character. The final boss, Rouge, can only be played in this mode using a code.
- Battle Mode:
Single player mode that pits the player against all eight characters, then Rouge. There are no individual endings in this mode, but a "Congratulations" screen based on the difficulty level.

CHARACTERS:
- Ranma Saotome Cursed Form: Ranma-chan
The title character and main character of the series. While training with his father at the Jusenkyo training grounds in China, Ranma was thrown into the Spring of Drowned Girl. According with the spring's curse, he emerged as a young lady. When splashed with hot water, he changes back into a man. However, when splashed with cold water, he turns into the red-headed girl again. Martial arts is the 16-year-old hero's life Ranma searchs for the Shingouki with Akane. A masked girl named Rouge appears and kidnaps Akane, warning Ranma to stop searching for the treasure. And so,Ranma set off to win the Shingouki and rescue Akane.

- Akane Tendo
The female protagonist of the series, Akane is Soun's youngest daughter at age 16. She is a very insecure, awkward and sensitive girl with a hot temper and a big heart. She is trying hard to excel in everything, but is either clumsy or completely inept at all except for schoolwork and certain sports activities, like volleyball. She also loves Ranma deeply. Akane searches for the Shingouki with Ranma, when a masked girl appears and warns of the Shingouki's secret, then takes Ranma away. Akane sets off after Ranma.

- Happousai
The very definition of a dirty old man, Happosai is the grandmaster and founder of the Anything Goes Martial Arts school. Genma and Soun were his original disciples, after getting trampled by Rouge, Happousai agrees to get rid of all the other characters in exchange for a date with her.

- Tatewaki Kuno
Tatewaki Kuno is an upperclassman at Furinkan High and was the big man on campus – at least until Ranma came along. He also falls for Ranma’s female half and never realizes that she is really his mortal enemy in girl form despite several occasions when Ranma transformed right before his eyes. Kuno, thinking himself perfect, believes that he will undoubtedly attain the Shingouki before anyone else.

- Ryu Kumon
Ryu seeks the Shingouki to unlock the power it contains. He meets up with Rouge and gets caught up in a race with her to obtain its power.

- Genma Saotome .Cursed Form: Panda
Genma is Ranma's insensitive father. He originally took Ranma to Jusenkyo because he had heard about it in a Chinese brochure even though he cannot read a word of Chinese. He also got cursed, turning into a panda. Genma recalls a tale of the Shingouki being able to grant supreme power, and sets off to attain it before anyone else has a chance to.

- Shampoo .Cursed Form: Cat
Shampoo came to Japan to kill the female Ranma after he defeated her in an annual martial contest so he and Genma could eat the prize, a well-stocked banquet table. She gave Ranma's female form the "Kiss of Death", a promise to track her down and eventually kill her.Later, after being defeated by Ranma in male form, she gave him the "Kiss of Marriage." Due to Amazon law, she is then bound to either kill or marry him. Unaware at first that girl and boy Ranma were the same person, she is heartbroken upon learning the truth and returns home to be retrained at Jusenkyo by her great-grandmother Cologne, but she became cursed and turns into a cat — the one thing Ranma fears most. Shampoo tries to get Ranma to search for the Shingouki with her, when a masked girl named Rouge hauls Ranma away. Shampoo pursues her fiancé, paying little attention to the mentions of the Shingouki.

- Ryoga Hibiki.Cursed Form: P-chan
Ryoga is a childhood rival of Ranma's and is infamous for losing his way thanks to a horrible sense of direction. After spending months looking for Ranma for leaving before their planned duel, he finally finds him in China but gets pushed into a Jusenkyo spring by a newly female Ranma and now changes into a small piglet. He seeks Ranma out with a large grudge, and discovers Akane who thinks that little P-chan is quite cute While searching for the Shingouki, Rouge appears and kidnaps Akane. Ryouga sets off after her, caring nothing about the treasure.

- Rouge
Rouge is a masked girl that seeks the Shingouki in order to unleash a powerful demon from the past. She can only be played as using a code in Versus Mode.

As with the Ranma ½ story, some characters are cursed to change forms when touched with cold or hot water. In Battle Renaissance, rain showers or geysers will randomly come down on one of the two fighters during battle, which can cause a cursed character to change form after a brief flash of light. This has a different negative effect on each cursed character:
- Ranma: does less damage and takes more damage in Ranma-chan form
- Genma: loses all his human form attacks in Panda form
- Shampoo: only has one attack in Cat form
- Ryouga: only has one attack as P-chan
