Simple 1500 Series vol.075 - The Double Shooting - Raystorm & Raycrisis is a compilation of 2 Taito arcade game shooters.

1 - RAYSTORM:
The year is 2219 and the Secilia Federation has initiated a plan to destroy Earth. So far, the evil federation has been highly successful in destroying much of the planet's defensive forces and resources. With world destruction at hand, the fate of mankind is looking for a savior.

Unbeknownst to the federation, the Star Federation, an Earth-based organization, has been developing two highly sophisticated aircraft known as the R-Gray prototypes. These destructive machines are packed with homing missiles, laser cannons and other crippling weapons. As the planet's hero, you'll control either R-Gray ship, taking to the skies in a desperate mission to stop the Secilia Federation from carrying out their plans.

Developed by Working Designs' action subsidiary Spaz, RayStorm is an overhead shooter featuring fast-paced gameplay and 3D graphics. Your mission won't be easy -- throughout a series of levels spanning enemy carriers, wide-open landscapes and the far reaches of space, the Secilia Federation will do their best to crush your R-Gray shooter; you'll fight everything from drone ships and ground turrets to large, mechanized boss characters. While targeting the opposition and engaging in frantic air battles, you'll collect a series of power-ups and extra weapons.

In addition to the lock-on target system and PlayStation lighting effects, RayStorm features a two-player cooperative mode. Rather than flying solo, you and a friend can battle the Secilia Federation side-by-side in simultaneous fashion. Either way, the mission won't be a stroll in the park. Dust off those shooting skills, you're gonna need 'em!

The game is a conversion of the Taito arcade machine of the same name and features the Extra mode that wasn't on the arcade machine.

2 - RAYCRISIS:
The sequel to RayStorm, RayCrisis: Series Termination takes place in a time when the future of mankind hangs in the balance. Determined to create the ultimate neural interface between man and machine, a rogue scientist named Leslie McGuire cloned herself and hardwired the clone's mind into directly into Con-Human, a powerful, worldwide computer network. Con-Human's AI quickly took over the clone's consciousness and was driven insane. Unable to comprehend the complexities of sentience and the human psyche, the Network went on a killing spree that wiped out most of Earth's 13 billion citizens.

The survivors of this dark future escaped to a series of underground cities that had been designed for shelter in the unlikely event of Earth getting hit by an asteroid. Many of these hardy souls escaped the Network and the planet itself via space vessels while others elected to remain behind in order to disable the Network. The assault (code-named Operation Meteor) on the Network failed miserably. However, there is one last hope for the future of Earth, namely you and your piloting skills.

You are at the helm of one of three Wave Rider experimental fighters, each equipped with the WR-01 primary weapon array, WR-02 secondary lock-on laser system, and WR-03 single-use weapon for emergency situations. The lock-on missiles help you aim (a cursor) at and shoot enemies that are of a different altitude than your ship. Other weapons include wide shot, laser, homing laser, thunder laser and photon torpedo. Special weapons can only be used when they've been given time to fully charge.

As with most shooters of this type, your objective in the game is to dodge, weave and blast your way through wave after wave of alien ships. After destroying an item carrier, you can pick up one of a number of power-up items that increase the power of your shot, increase the maximum number of lock-ons, decrease the percentage of erosion, give you a bonus ship or double your current score. Two modes of play are available: Original, which lets you select three of five levels, and Special, which takes you through seven levels using a fully powered ship.

RayCrisis: Series Termination is analog control and vibration function compatible. It also supports the PocketStation, a special memory card with an LCD screen and simple controls. Released only in Japan, the PocketStation lets you download certain games from your PlayStation and play them on the go.

"Pocket-Ray" Minigame (Home Version Only) If you have the PocketStation, then you get to play the "Pocket-Ray" mini game. Using Lock-on attacks, you must keep the enemies from escaping the screen.

To download the mini-game to your PocketStation, put it into Memory Card slot #1. It takes 14 blocks to install. You move the targeting sight with the directional keys and hit Enter to fire the Lock-on laser. If too many enemies escape, the game is over.

RayCrisis: Series Termination differs from the original 1998 arcade version, which is simply titled RayCrisis, in that it features an additional mode of play that lets you go through all the levels with your ship fully powered. The home game also features a number of options, such as five difficulty levels, flash effect, controller vibration and number of ships.
