Have you ever wondered who was the tougher opponent between a vampire and a werewolf, or perhaps a mummy and a zombie? Were you ever curious as to what Bigfoot really looks like? More importantly, have you ever wanted to become one of these monsters of legend? If you answered yes to the above questions, your answers have been realized in this Arcade conversion of Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors for the PlayStation!

When the sun goes down and the night eclipses a midnight sky, the Darkstalkers come out to play. There are 10 creatures in all including Demitri Maximoff, a bloodthirsty vampire; the cursed werewolf Jon Talbain; Lord Raptor an aristocrat zombie creature; and the lumbering Sasquatch. In addition to having certain strengths and weaknesses, each character features a wide range of specialty maneuvers, combinations, and throws.

Players are able to perform special attacks when the Special meter (located at the bottom of the screen) is full. Special attacks are oftentimes devastating, but difficult to execute. As long as the meter is flashing, a special attack can be executed; when such a maneuver is accomplished, the meter resets to zero. Additionally, characters come with certain dash attacks and air-juggles that setup chain/combination moves.

Darkstalkers features two gameplay options including the Arcade and Versus mode. The Versus mode is simply a two-player rumble with any two characters. If one of the players is a fighting champion while the other is a wimpy newbie, there is a handicap option that evens up the skill level; by changing the levels, players can increase or decrease a character's attack and defensive powers.

The Arcade mode is a frame-by-frame version of the actual Arcade version. Players select a fighter of their choice and take him, her, or it through a barrage of computer-controlled opponents in an eliminating fashion. Those who possess the skills necessary to make it through the tournament will face the deadly alien Pyron. Finish him off and you'll become the Lord of the Night!
