Sakura Wars is a series of dramatic adventure video games developed and published by Sega and licensed by Red Entertainment (formerly Red Company). Its first game, classified as dramatic adventure,[1] premiered in 1996 and Sakura Wars games have later been on nearly every video game console since the Sega Saturn, including Dreamcast, Sega Titan, Game Boy Color, PlayStation Portable, Microsoft Windows, Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, and several models of mobile phone.

In addition to the five games released as part of the main (numbered) series and their many spin-offs and related titles, the Sakura Wars series has spawned many works in other media including anime, movies, novels and manga, and radio dramas. For the Sakura Taisen World Project, seven games were announced: Sakura Taisen: Atsuki Chishio ni, Sakura Taisen V: Saraba itoshiki hito yo, Sakura Taisen V: Episode 0, Sakura Taisen Monogatari - Teito-hen & Paris-hen, a title that tells the story of the Anti-Kouma Battle Squadron and the Kouma War. Also announced was a game that took place during the Sengoku Jidai and a PC port of Sakura Taisen 3.

Sakura Wars is set in a fictional Taisho period. Although the alternate timeline's history is similar to that of the real world, a crucial difference lies in technology, where most of the benefits of today's modern era are made possible in the early 1900s with the effective utilization of steam. In particular, the Imperial Capital Tokyo, also known as the Teito (the capital), stood at the forefront of that period's technological revolution. This was thanks in part to the company called Kanzaki Heavy Industries, who were considered world-leaders in steam-powered machinery.

The game is a Strategy RPG that features a unique sim-based story system. An in-depth storyline exists, much like in any other RPG; however, the player's destiny in the game is not predetermined, character interaction plays a major role. The player's interaction with the game dramatically influences the storyline and the ending, as the player nurtures relationships between certain characters, their performance in battle will also improve and the strength of their attacks soars. This means that the game's social elements are closely tied to the battle system.

Adventure mode allows the player to control the male squad leader of the assault force the game is focused upon. By visiting certain locations within a building or a city, he may interact with various characters by a real-time system known as the Live Interactive Picture System (LIPS). LIPS presents the player with options to choose from during conversations and events, where the player must make a choice within a certain time limit, or choose not to respond at all by not making a choice within that time.

In the first two Sakura Wars games, the battle mode gameplay is similar to that of tactical role-playing games. The player gives commands to all attack squad members piloting a spirit armor in a square-based grid. Commands are arranged in groups, and only two commands from different groups can be issued for each turn.

STORY:
It is the Taishou Era in Japan, and the Western world has begun to make its way through traditional Japan. Technology is evolving, and the use of steam has made for great breakthroughs in transportation in weaponry. But the world faces a deadly threat: a dark cult wishes to destroy Japan and the very world itself. To combat any possible threats, the Imperial government of Japan brings together 6 young ladies from around the world to form the Hanagumi (Flower Bridage) division of the Teikoku Kagekidan (Imperial Floral Assault Group). Clad in their proud spiritual armor, the Kobou, these young women are the frontline of defense against the demon worshippers, but they haven't a leader to guide them into battle.

And, with a single letter, young Navy ensign Ichiro Ogami's life is about to take a very interesting turn as the chosen leader of the Hanagumi! Ichiro now has to gain the trust of the members of the Hanagumi if he expects to keep things under control.

PLAYSTATION 2 VERSION:
Atsuki Chishio Ni is a remake of the first Sakura Taisen. The game's story and core gameplay remain unchanged from the original version. New in the remake are additional CG movies, several new characters and scenarios, battle system updated to the Dreamcast Sakura Taisen games, and the LIPS system: pressing the analog stick on the controller determines the emotional strength of your answer. Dialogue choices now have a time limit.

The limited edition of Sakura Taisen for PS2 ships in deluxe packaging and includes a standing Sakura placard with a gold timepiece with matching chain. A bonus DVD with background data on the PS2 port of Sakura Taisen is also bundled in the package.

This first pressing of the PS2 Sakura Taisen remake includes a bonus DVD containing background data on the PS2 conversion. Please note: Although the SKU of the Sakura Taisen game that we stocked matches the JAPANESE version of the game, the bonus DVD is ASIAN (REGION-3) although the game itself is the JAPANESE territory version. The packaging of the game is also the JAPANESE version.
