Bonk is a video game character from NEC's TurboGrafx-16 console. Known in Japan as "PC-Genjin" (PC-Primitive man, a pun on "PC Engine") and as "BC Kid" in PAL territories, Bonk was a mascot for NEC's console. Three games featured the character appeared on the TurboGrafx-16, as well as two spin-offs featuring Airzonk. A large-headed, bald caveman, his favored form of attack is the headbutt. The "PC" part of his Japanese name stands for "Pithecanthropus Computerurus", a fictitious species name for Bonk.
Konami owns the rights to the Bonk series as a result of their absorption of the series's publisher Hudson Soft in 2012.
Bonk's Adventure (PC Genjin) was the first game starring Bonk and was released for the TurboGrafx-16 in 1990. A variation of the TG-16 original eventually appeared on the NES with fewer colors and reduced graphic quality. Another variation was released for the Amiga under the name BC Kid. A completely new game, with 2 player co-op, was released for the arcades, while another new game utilizing the same name was released for the Game Boy. A remake of the original was released in Japan many years later on the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo GameCube.
The Hudson Selection Vol. 1-4 are a collection of video games by Hudson Soft, released only in Japan. Each volume is an enhanced remake of the following games.
Hudson Selection Vol. 3 - PC Genjin: Fourteen years after its debut, PC Genjin (Bonk's Adventure) is remade as the third game out of four in the Hudson Selection series of game remakes. While the game remains mostly the same as the original, the graphics and sound have been completely overhauled.
The graphics are fully 3D rendered and are similar in design to Yoshi's Story. Bonk has a meaner look and practically every sound effect is spelled out on-screen. Some of the levels are altered. Fruit is not as common and there are no crystal hearts, but lives are much more plentiful. There are three difficulty levels, which after being fully completed, unlock the three original PC Genjin Japanese TV commercials.
