A visual novel is an interactive fiction game, featuring mostly static graphics, most often using anime-style art or occasionally live-action stills (and sometimes video footage). As the name might suggest, they resemble mixed-media novels.
In Japanese terminology, a distinction is often made between visual novels proper (abbreviated NVL), which consist predominantly of narration and have very few interactive elements, and adventure games (abbreviated AVG or ADV), which may incorporate problem-solving and other types of gameplay. This distinction is normally lost outside Japan, where both NVLs and ADVs are commonly referred to as "visual novels" by international fans. Visual novels and ADVs are especially prevalent in Japan, where they made up nearly 70% of the PC game titles released in 2006.
Visual novels are distinguished from other game types by their extremely minimal gameplay. Typically the majority of player interaction is limited to clicking to keep the text, graphics and sound moving (most recent games offer "play" or "fast-forward" toggles that make even this unnecessary).
Most visual novels have multiple storylines and many endings; the gameplay mechanic in these cases typically consists of intermittent multiple-choice decision points, where the player selects a direction in which to take the game.
Colorful Box - To love is another love-adventure game, this time painting a "comical story" set in a school. You play as main character Narumi Morizuki who's been selected to work on the school festival committee. The game takes place over a one month period and has you interact with six different girls.
Colorful Box - To Love has been ported to the PlayStation 2 from the PC complete with new events, new CG and even a new opening with a new background song. This game features artwork by two artists and is known for its balance in comical situations and ordinary situations.
CHARACTERS:
- Minamo Moriduki: It is received to the grove moon person who is the cousin after it dies of parents and to hero's sister-in-law. Flexible character's trustworthy man. Playing with a pet dog is a hobby.
- Ayane Kusunoki: It is hero's childhood friend and it is an upperclassman. It is being borrowed by the assistant of various extracurricular activities versatile sports. The thing that comes to play going along in the roof because the house lives in the room of hero's facing in the next is abundant. The race game is loved.
- Honami Yamada: It makes to hero's classmate, and campus festival execution committee's both parties. In a straight-fowardness character, the thing whose hand is earlier than the mouth is frequent. It has the complex in the height and the family name, and the hand goes out unconsciously when the vicinity is pointed out. Minesawa is a childhood friend.
- Mei Yaegashi: Hero's classmate. The unobtrusive presence also in the class in an adult character. To tell the truth, it has good consideration in the opposite sex after making fun a favorite boy in childhood because of that though it is a considerable marvelous physical strength owner.
- Natsume Tachibana: Campus festival execution chairman. Possession of peculiar character and atmosphere and class students.
