Neon Genesis Evangelion, commonly referred to as NGE, Evangelion or Eva, is a Japanese animated television series produced by Tatsunoko Productions and Gainax and directed by Hideaki Anno. It was broadcast on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996. The original Japanese cast of the show includes the voice actors and singers Megumi Ogata as Shinji Ikari, Megumi Hayashibara as Rei Ayanami, and Yuko Miyamura as Asuka Soryu. The music was composed by Shiro Sagisu and would top the Oricon charts upon release; the theme song continues to receive recognition for its lasting impact in the decades after its release. The Evangelion franchise also includes a movie tetralogy called Rebuild of Evangelion, as well as several other spin-off anime, manga and video game series.
Originally released on the Playstation 2 in December 2006, the Secret of Evangelion makes its way to the Playstation Portable half a year later. The game's background is Tokyo-3 and the subterranean Geofront where the threat of Angels with devastating offensive power is always present. Since conventional weaponry is ineffective against the Angels, superior forces are called into action. To combat the random invasions, a team of teenagers is trained to pilot mighty mecha known as Evangelion which are capable of halting the assault of the Angels.
In Secret of Evangelion, players take on the role of a NERV operative named Kyoya who wears shades at all times. Early in the game, it's established that Kyoya is an old school chum of both Misato and Ritsuku and the two women are comfortable with him. Misato expresses some reservations about Kyoya's assignment but brushes it off. Throughout the adventure, Kyoya will come into contact with Shinji, Rei, and Asuka and his goal is to raise their level of trust in him so that information about the inner workings of NERV can be gleaned.
