Menus and gameplay are in Japanese.

Sometime in the year 20XX, space-time anomalies ripple throughout cities across the world and force their shut-down by the powers that be. To investigate the events and keep things under control, a special task forced called Shinra is established in Tokyo. Two agents from Shinra serve as the protagonists in the game - Shaomu and Reiji.

As the duo start their investigation in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, the heroes from Xenosaga slips through a time anomaly along with ephemeral Gnosis entities. Shaomu and Reiji team up with M.O.M.O, KOS-MOS, and Shion to defeat the Gnosis and soon find new time anomalies that take them to the worlds of Namco and Capcom which may lead them to the answers they seek...

Over 200 recognizable characters from the Capcom and Namco camps appear in the game including the cast of Street Fighter, Vampire, Tekken, Dino Crisis, Tales of Destiny, and many more. Individual characters that appear in the game include Captain Commando, Strider, Rockman, Klonoa, and many more.

Namco X Capcom is not a fighting game but a strategy game in the style of Super Robot Wars where gamers control teams of Namco or Capcom characters in tactical battles. When an encounter takes place, the perspective changes to a side view of the attacker launching an massive attack on the target. Watch in wonderment as familiar heroes such as Mitsurugi of Soul Calibur fame, Morrigan from Vampire, Ryu from Street Fighter, Strider, Klonoa, Rockman, and many others throw out trademark attacks which light up the screen.

Gameplay is traditional SRPG fare. A squad of units is placed on an isometric battlefield where they battle against an AI-controlled squad of units. The quirk here lies in the battles that take place when units attack each other. At this point, the game switches to a 2D-side view reminiscent of classic fighting games. Here, using menu commands and fighting-game style button inputs, battles take place between the two units. Special moves and combos unique to each character are available and are often showcased with hand-drawn artwork of the characters.

MISC CODES:

Shop Glitch - Infinite money -   First, using buy/sell or equip, make sure the last item is listed as the first item of the last page in the shop's sell list. The last item and the 2nd last item also must be buyable from the shop. The third requirment is that the selling price of the 2nd last item have to be more than half the buying price for the last item.

The trick works like this:
Buy up to 99 items for the last item, then go to sell. Select the last item, and press L1. This will select all 99 items for sell. Proceed to selling all 99 as usual. Without doing anything, the selection will then automatically go to the 2nd last item. Press O to sell, and it will ask if you want to sell 99 of that item. Press yes, and you have just sell 99 of the 2nd last item (last item now) even if you only have 1 of that item originally. Repeat by buying 1 for the 2nd last and 99 of the last item.
