The Post-Terran Minerals Corporation (PTMC) digs up minerals on all nine planets of the solar system, employing humans and robots to do its job. Unfortunately, the mining robots are now being controlled by a hacker, and have taken the human workers hostage. The PTMC has tried to get the robots back under their control, but communication with the mining stations has been lost. In desperation, the PTMC modifies a Pyro-GX ship for combat and hires a mercenary, codenamed "Material Defender", to fly it. The mission is to destroy the infected mines and rescue human hostages, destroying any hostile robot that gets in the way.

Considered by many to be a genre-initiating game, Descent took the successful first person 3D formula popularized previously by Wolfenstein 3D and Doom and created an environment where true freedom of movement was possible. The game begins deep below the surface of Lunar Base I where an unknown alien race has taken over the chasm of the Post-Terran Mining Corporation.

Manning your spacecraft, the object of the game is to navigate through mine shafts, twist around never-ending tunnels and fight your way past robotic menaces in an environment that's truly 360 3D. With some truly mindboggling level design, you'll find yourself unable to differentiate top from bottom.

Coming shortly after the original 1995 PC version of Descent, the Playstation version was created as a natural fit for the console's robust 3D graphics support. Although unable to take advantage of the multiplayer network options of the PC original, there are options for two-player gaming via a link cable.

Features:
Adjust your strategy to stay one step ahead of enemies that can learn your tactics
Featuring a soundtrack with music from Type O Negative and Skinny Puppy
Explore 30 levels in single-or multiplayer cooperative and competitive play

  Manufacturer's description:

You're going down.

Begin your Descent deep below the surface of Lunar Base 1 where an unknown alien race has taken over the Post-Terran Mining Corporation. Lunge straight down mine shafts, twist around never-ending tunnels and blast your way past robotic menaces which actually learn your moves, plot and attack.

Move up, move down, shoot everything everywhere. Adjust as top becomes bottom, then hang on to your senses (and your lunch) as you pilot a life-threatening 360-degree 3D roller coaster ride from hell. Strap yourself in and prepare to go down.

30 levels of mind bending, stomach churning action in 360-degree 3D
1 or 2 player for head-to-head or cooperative play - Including 5 NEW Anarchy Levels!
Explosive soundtrack featuring Type O Negative and "Ogre" of Skinny Puppy.
All new "Radiosity" lighting effects.
