Fisherman's Bait is an arcade-style fishing game that has you trying to reel in as many fish as you can within a time limit. Yet the amount of fish isn't all that's important in the game: this is a case where size does matter. That's right, you're aiming to land the largest bass possible in order to earn a spot on the top twenty "Best Anglers" list. The four game modes are as follows: Beginner (practice mode to get accustomed to the controls), Training (choose one of three lakes and pick a spot to start fishing), Tournament and Versus Play (two-player simultaneous action).

Six different types of fish are just waiting to be snapped up, so try your luck at landing: Big Bass, Blue Gill, Rainbow Trout, Snakehead, Catfish or Catfish (Biwa). Yet before you can catch the fish, you'll have to first decide on your bait. Players can choose from worms, grubs, jerk bait, vibration, crank bait, pencil bait or poppers. The color variations can also be adjusted to make lures more visible in the water.

Play is from behind your fisherman looking toward a digitized picture of the spot you've selected along the lake (either Lake Raimier, Hudler Chain or Lake Howell). Casting involves holding down a button to determine power and releasing it when you're satisfied with the distance (a horizontal gauge will help you determine how far to cast). Next, slowly reel in the line by rotating the right analog control stick until a fish starts biting.

Once it's hooked, you'll need to rapidly reel it in while making sure to release tension so the line won't snap (a vertical meter will let you know the amount of tension). After it's caught, the fish will automatically be weighed in and measured. Each catch adds to the amount of time you have left and may qualify you for the high score screen. Other notable features include: adjustable credits, eight difficulty levels, adjustable time (from 60 to 300 seconds) and configurable control settings (button functions and reel sensitivity). Your biggest catches can also be saved to memory card, with an option to view them inside a live well!
