This PlayStation release includes updated versions of the the first Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II. Originally designed for the NES, both games have been reworked to take advantage of the more powerful PS. Graphics have been refined and the sound quality has been improved. A new "Memo File" feature cuts down on reloading time by allowing players to quick-save their game before facing a dangerous situation.
While the original Final Fantasy was released to the U.S. in 1990, the featured version of Final Fantasy II was previously available only in Japan. In addition to complete and enhanced versions of both the first and second games in the cornerstone series, Square also rewards its fans with new CG movies, additional songs in the soundtrack, and an art gallery and bestiary that offer insight on the creative talent behind the games.
FINAL FANTASY I:
Final Fantasy is a remake of the Famicom (NES) game of the same name.
The world is veiled in darkness. Winds don't blow, the seas are stormy, and the earth rots. All people can hope for is that the ancient prophecy will be finally fulfilled. "When the world is veiled in darkness, four warriors will come..." And indeed, they come - the four characters you have previously chosen. Their first quest is to free a princess from the evil knight Garland, and then the real journey begins.
This version includes the following changes and enhancements:
The graphics and the soundtrack have been updated to resemble technically those of the 16-bit installments of the series
There is an additional Easy difficulty level
In addition to saving the game in towns, the player can also create a memo file at any time, which acts as a saved game file until the player quits the game
Characters automatically target and attack a new enemy in case the originally targeted enemy has been defeated by another character during the course of the round
The protagonist can run at any time if the player presses a correspondent button during movement
A few minor changes have been made to character abilities
A CG introduction movie has been added to the Playstation version
FINAL FANTASY II:
The Paramekian Empire decided to take over the world. Its soldiers and Dark Knights persecute innocent people, burn whole villages, hunt down brave warriors. Now Phin, the homeland of the four heroes, has been destroyed by the evil empire. Only four young warriors could escape, three men and one girl. On their way to a neighbor town Altea, they were attacked by the Dark Knights. Three of them were brought safely to Altea by the order of the rebel army. But one has not yet been found...
