Rollcage is an arcade-style racing game for Windows and PlayStation, developed by Attention to Detail, and published by Psygnosis. The Windows version was released in the UK on March 24, 1999. The game's selling point was its unique physics engine, in which cars could drive on walls or ceilings because of the airflow passing over them at extreme speeds. The game also featured an original soundtrack by Fatboy Slim.

Ever felt the need to round a corner going 300MPH while grinding your opponents into a wall or the side of a building? If you answered yes, Psygnosis' futuristic auto-combat/racing title Rollcage may be the game for you!

Taking a cue from the company's other futuristic racer Wipeout, Rollcage features twenty distinctive tracks through four different environments including red canyons, cities, and scenic roadways. The difference between the two games, however, is that the six included vehicles can race on any surface found within the track. Players can drive their vehicle on tunnel ceilings, up on massive boulders, the sides of walls, and other various surfaces!

Each vehicle is indestructible with varying acceleration, top speed, strength, and grip levels. For example, Lenny Hicks' vehicle is extremely powerful with destructive capabilities, but has poor acceleration and medium grip. Whereas Lothar Maier's vehicle is adequately balanced in all areas, Ria Simba's car suffers from low strength.

Additionally, there are eight offensive weapons and helpful pickups that each vehicle may use against their opponents or for personal gain. Among the actual weapons is the homing missile, a drill device that bores through consecutive targets, an ice sheet that takes away 80 percent of a vehicle's traction, a leader missile that seeks out the first place racer, and a leapfrog-like wormhole. Players can also utilize time warps that slow their opponents down, turbo boosts, and protective shields from harm.

Rollcage allows players to race as one of 6 cars and drivers. The drivers are Tony, Lothar, Ria, Jet, Leon and Lenny. When the game is completed in "Easy" mode the "Hard" mode and a seventh mysterious driver (who now can race against you) are unlocked. Completing "Hard" mode allows players to race as the seventh driver (a policeman named Yuri). He arguably has the best statistics in the game due his car's higher speed, grip, and acceleration and strength. The cars are all double sided so, they can be driven on either side. This is done by having the tires of the car larger than the body. The cars cannot be destroyed in the game.

The racing modes available to choose from are: League, Arcade, Time attack and Multiplayer.

League play is selected, players are to choose a vehicle and enter the Gemini League. If players are able to obtain enough points at the end of a season (by finishing each race as close to first place as possible), they'll move on to the Scorpio League and the final Taurus League.

The Time Attack mode allows players to race against the clock or a ghost vehicle emulating their best times. If you've set a new lap or course record, you can save it to the memory card and view it at anytime in the Records menu. Before you'll be setting new records, however, it will probably be for the best by starting out in the Practice mode. This mode allows players to learn vehicle controls and how to utilize the weapons; this is a must if you're striving to become a Rollcage champion!

Once you've become the champion and done all the practicing you're going to do, why not challenge a friend in the 2 Player match-up? After choosing the vehicles and a venue to race on, you'll lock up in a heated split-screen battle for ultimate bragging rights! Additional deathmatch courses can be unlocked by playing through the League mode.

Tracks:
There are 4 main "Worlds" in Rollcage, each with up to four tracks; Neoto City, Harpoon Islands, Saphire Springs and Outworld.

* Neoto City is largely based on a city in Japan. This can be seen especially in the logo, as it is in the shape of Japan's national flag.
* Harpoon Islands are a series of tracks on a group of tropical islands.
* Sapphire Springs is an icy and snowy place.
* Outworld is a mining complex on Mars.

  Manufacturer's description:

360 degree no rules, non-stop racing may lead to temporary disorientation, dizziness, loss of awareness of involuntary movements. But don't let that stop you...

* Drive anywhere--on the side of walls, the roof of tunnels, through buildings
* Blast away at the scenery with 8 innovative weapons to slow down your opponents
* Race through 20 different tracks spread over 4 distinct environments
