X Games Pro Boarder is an extreme sports simulation featuring the snowboarding events of the Winter X Games. There are five events to begin the game, and four additional events are revealed when players win events in "Circuit" mode.
X Games Pro Boarder features eight of the world's top snowboarders, including Peter Line, Tina Basich, Shannon Dunn, and Terje Haakonsen. Each boarder has his or her own bag of tricks, and each boarder is better at certain events than others. The five default events are the Midnight Express, the Half Pipe, the Stadium, Mount Baker Gap, and Slopestyle. After winning Circuit mode events, the Super Pipe, the I-70 course, Boarder-X, and Free Ride are opened for play.
Midnight Express and Boarder-X are timed race games where your boarder takes on other boarders on a downhill course full of trees, jumps, and other obstacles. Although boarders can rip tricks in these events, the winner is the racer who finishes first. The Half Pipe, Stadium, and Super Pipe events are trick events. Boarders get three minutes for each event. During the pipe runs, boarders must rip tricks and cross the finish line. The boarder with the most style points wins. Boarders only get one run in each pipe event, but they can make as many runs as possible in the Stadium event. Each Stadium run consists of heading down a hill into a quarter pipe to get big air and pull multiple aerial tricks. The boarder with the best overall trick wins this event.
The Mount Baker Gap and I-70 events consist of a big air run followed by a downhill run. Players must make it over a mountain road in the big air portion to continue onto the downhill run. If players land on the road, the run is over, and trucks might run over the stranded boarder. Players win the event by getting the highest point totals for combined aerial and grind tricks.
The Slopestyle and Free Ride events allow boarders to race down an obstacle-filled downhill course while pulling jumps, grinds, and aerial tricks. The boarder with the best trick score wins. The events are for one-player games, unless two players connect for a network game. X Games Pro Boarder features music from alternative rock bands and video from the X Games.
