In 989 Sports' first college basketball game for the PlayStation, NCAA Final Four 99 brings together over 250 Division I teams for play in three game modes: Exhibition, Season or an NCAA 64-team Tournament. Quinn Buckner provides full play-by-play commentary to complement a TV-style presentation with multiple camera angles and a Sixth Man Meter to gauge crowd noise.
The game also features 3D polygonal players each scaled to height and weight, whom can use fakes, turbo boosts, alley-oops, dunks or defensive stances to guard against steals. Icon Passing, Cutting and Switching allow players to use the individual buttons on the control pad to quickly activate specific teammates, and multiple offensive and defensive schemes let you call such plays as full court press, high post and box set.
Perhaps the most notable feature is Touch Shooting, which involves timing shots using a vertical meter. Once you press the shot button, the meter will appear showing a green area representing the player's accuracy. Release the button when the red bar reaches this area and you'll improve your chances at making the shot. NCAA Final Four 99 also includes fatigue, substitutions, injuries, shot charts and statistical tracking for 32 categories saved to memory card (two to four blocks). Up to eight players can play simultaneously with a Multi Tap adapter.
