Psychic Detective is an innovative slant on the interactive movie. You're Eric Fox, a psychic detective who can transmit his psychic self to others, to see through their eyes and hear through their ears. That way you can find out things about the case you couldn't otherwise. He has been employed by a strange woman to discover the mystery behind the death of her father.
The huge mystery starts with Eric meeting the beautiful young woman named Laina. She introduces you to the other members of her family. Once another character appears on screen, an icon with their face on appears on the border. Click on this icon, and Eric will be able to delve into that person’s mind. This comes in handy for getting to know who is suspicious and who is innocent. As you can guess, the game is packed full of characters, so the mystery will take a heck of a long time to finish.
Eric is able to receive weird psychic flashbacks, which usually feature either scenes of murder, sex or just suspicious goings on. He can influence the behaviour of other characters (annoy them, seduce them, etc.). As well as people, the smallest of items can give vital clues, even a stubbed out cigarette. It all depends on how carefully you watch the screen border. Special ‘Psychic Collectors’ must be picked up – these can magnify Eric’s psychic powers. When one is activated, the screen goes into a swirl of colours, and presents the player with a variety of choice s. As the game progresses, Eric gets to play the Black Diamond game. This is a psychic battle which takes place on a board, but it’s a bit strange.
The game has many different conclusions. It's a dark story though, and most people might not want to play through again.
It’s gonna be a big mystery to solve. Heck, there are three CDs for this thing! Clues to the mystery are everywhere, and by touching certain objects Eric can reveal their history. All this is viewed from a first person perspective as Eric chats to all the other characters
In the PSX version of the game you can save the game anywhere and at anytime except during the Black Diamond games. There are some scenes that are removed comparing to the Pc and 3do versions of the game.
