Slam 'N Jam was released for the 3DO first and later updated for the Saturn and PlayStation. This is the first attempt by Crystal Dynamics at a basketball game and, depite the lack of typical features, they were likely influenced by the two major basketball franchises by EA Sports and Sega.

Get ready to take it to the hole with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar in Slam 'N Jam '96: featuring Magic & Kareem! Featuring fully rendered 3D arenas, players can execute the ever-famous sky-hook, pull off no-look passes, view instant replays for spectacular plays, and set up all kinds of offensive and defensive strategies. Additionally, Van Earl Wright returns as the play-by-play commentator!

Slam 'N Jam '96 features a few gameplay options including the Exhibition Game, Season, and Playoffs modes. The Exhibition is a single game of basketball using any of the teams. This is ideal for new players as it will get them accustomed to the gameplay mechanics and various controls. On the other hand, starting a new Playoffs session will save you the time and hassle of going through an actual season of basketball. Choose your favorite team and guide them to the finals!

After selecting the Season mode, players can select a full season of basketball (82 games), opt to play each team twice (56 games), once (28 games), or half the teams (13 or 14 games). Not only will you have to guide your team through the season by actually playing in the games, you'll also be acting as general manager. This means you'll be setting up starting rosters, trading players and picking up free agents, setting strategies, etc.

In addition to a full calendar of games, this game keeps track of season statistics with a realistic tracker. At any point during the season, you'll be able to find out who has the most assists, rebounds, points-per-game, etc. You can use the tracker to your advantage to not only scope out potential trades, but to see which teams are going to give you the most trouble throughout the coming weeks.

There's also a Franchise mode that allows you to utilize one superstar throughout the entire game. It allows you to play as your favorite player without switching between other stars on the team. This is opposed to the Manual option that always places you in control of whoever has the ball.

Slam 'N Jam '96: featuring Magic & Kareem is Multi-Tap adaptable with up to four-player support! Statistics and Season mode progression is savable to a Memory Card.
