In the year 2000, Armageddon was brought about by a computer system known as Edo. It started a molecular change in the attributes of all living cells, mutating all inhabitants of the world. The people of the world were separated into two classes after their mutation: the Silhouettes and the Mirages.

Violent outbreaks fueled by racism for one another started in nearly every town after the mutations. In order to control the chaos, two men rose up to lead the two classes. Hal led the Mirages while Megido ruled the Silhouettes with both showing leadership qualities and ambitions. Hal was a military genius and focused on building up his empire, employing Guardian Angels to his defense from anything that even threatened to scathe him. Megido had a violent nature that made him powerful and inspired his people to become a force to be reckoned with.

Through this disaster, the protagonist and Messenger of Justice, Shyna Nera Shyna, remained dormant. Shyna is one of the few living creatures that holds attributes of both the Silhouette and the Mirage. Of course, things aren't as simple as waking Shyna up from a long nap. When she finally awoke from her suspension, parts of her memory were erased, including some of her special combat skills and, more importantly, the location of the Edo system.

Silhouette Mirage is a combination platform/shooting game from the design geniuses at Treasure, the same people responsible for such classics as Radiant Silvergun, Gunstar Heroes, and Bangai-O. As Shyna Nera Shyna, you must shoot yourself through a countless stream of Silhouettes, Mirages, huge bosses, and quirky characters in the quest to find and fix the Edo computer system.

However, the only way to kill a Mirage is by shooting it with Silhouette energy and vise versa. Which type of shot you shoot is dependent upon which side of Shyna is facing the screen. This mixes some strategy into the action as you have to jump over enemies or throw them around you. There are also multiple weapons the protagonist can purchase, and in order to get the money for them she literally has to beat the cash out her foes.

Working Designs handled translation and localization of Silhouette Mirage. Of course, they've added a few things over the original Saturn and PlayStation versions released in Japan, most of which go toward upping the difficulty. Weapons are more expensive and (the most gameplay affecting) Shyna's shots are now limited by Spirit Energy, which can only be replenished by shooting enemies of the same attribute (as opposed to damaging them with the opposite attribute).

Shyna also has a wide array of moves at her disposal ranging from the aforementioned throws and the aptly named Cash Bash to dashes, slides, reflects, and the screen-clearing Parasite Bomb. There's even a move that switches which side each attribute is on.

As an added bonus, Working Designs has included a movie of Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. Because Shyna Nera Shyna's quest to find the Edo system will be a difficult one, only the most reflex-savvy need apply to Silhouette Mirage!

Features:
Fight for the future of humanity in side-scrolling shooter adventure

  Manufacturer's description:
