Team Losi RC Racer is a one or two-player racing game that features 16 radio-controlled vehicles. You'll be racing against various opponents to unlock new tracks (15 in all), discover new cars and conquer the vast hub system that connects every track together. Discovering new tracks and bonus goodies involves locating any given rainbow-colored gate; after you're familiar with the tracks, you can perfect your times and utilize the gates to your advantage. Of course, you're not required to race every single time you play -- you can explore the tracks for said gates, finding shortcuts that will give you an advantage over the opposition.
Radio-controlled vehicles are based on performance ratings including speed, acceleration, grip and weight. There are four cars to choose from at the start of the game; whereas Krush is average in all areas, the Flame Dragon has incredible handling and acceleration features. Tracks incorporate surreal environments such as beachside raceways, mountainous terrain and a desert.
There are a few different gameplay options including the Track Attack/Exploration, Challenge-1 and Challenge-2 modes. Upon completion of the first hub of the Challenge-1 mode, the Track Attack/Exploration mode becomes available; it allows you to explore an entire track in hopes to find a hidden RC vehicle. The Challenge-1 mode takes you to the track selection area, throwing you into the Challenge-1 circuit. If you complete each raceway with a gold medal, you'll advance to the next circuit. All of the original tracks are found within the Challenge-2 mode with several new ones. Regardless, each circuit has a series of gate sequences that allow you to find new secrets.
Team Losi RC Racer also features a number of power-ups that gives your vehicle special powers. Turbo gives you a burst of speed, the ~Meanie-Mode lets you smash your way through the opposition, Time Stop freezes time and stops other cars, Mega-Grip gives your car better traction and handling, the Ghost gives you ghastly powers (driving through walls) and the Copter gives you a flying capability!
With the included 360-degree rollover ability, Team Losi RC Racer features a variety of 3D effects such as real-time shadows, fogging and translucency. There's also a multi-player feature that has you and a human opponent racing for your lives! The game makes full use of the Dual Shock Analog Controller, Namco's neGcon controller and a memory card for saving data.
