Kurohime (Magic User Kurohime") is a manga series authored by Masanori Ookamigumi Katakura. The manga began its run in 2002, and had been serialized in Monthly Shonen Jump. It will be one of the pilot manga in the new monthly shonen book's website, Jump Square. An English-language version of the manga is published by Viz Media. However, only volumes 1-14 were translated with the 15th cancelled and no plans to continue the series have been announced.
PLOT:
Ten years prior to the manga's beginning, Kurohime brought an end to a massive war fought to own and rebuild the Tower of the Gods, which once completed would allow the builder to become a god themselves. Upon completion, Kurohime destroyed the tower and entered the realm of the gods to slaughter them, as they were the ones who started the war in the first place. Through a combination of deception and brutality, the gods captured her and then split Kurohime into two beings, one representing her rage, and the other representing her compassion.
The being representing her rage, in a form of a small girl named 'Himeko', seeks to regain her body and powers, and attempt to take down the gods again; however the curse can only be undone with love, and Kurohime is predominantly selfish and manipulative. Throughout the course of the manga, Kurohime is able to regain her ability to love through her relationship with Zero, causing her to evolve into different incarnations throughout the various story arcs.
Mahou Tsukai Kurohime: The black-clad Kurohime was once a powerful, beautiful "magic gunner", wielding the greatest ability and power in the world...but she tried to defy the gods with this power, and ended up cursed with the weak, useless body of a child. Today, she roams the land, looking for a way to break her curse. After a run-in with a gang of bandits led by a man named Onimaru, she makes a narrow escape and runs into a mysterious fairy named Renfa, who agrees to break the curse in exchange for helping her.
Mahou Tsukai Kurohime (Magic Gunner Kurohime) is a third-person action shooter based on the manga by Masanori Katakura. The story takes place shortly before the first arc in the manga, and follows Kurohime as she helps Renfa. The game is an arena-based shooter similar to Virtual On or Armored Core; each fight generally has Kurohime facing a group of smaller enemies, then a much more substantial boss enemy. She has access to both normal bullets and several of the powerful mahodan "magic bullets" she uses in the manga, but her magic meter must recharge after they're used. There is also a free mode, where you can play a match against the computer using many different characters, including familiar faces like Zero, Asura, and Onimaru.
