Fate/stay night is a Japanese visual novel developed by Type-Moon, which was originally released as an adult game for Windows. A version of Fate/stay night rated for ages 15 and up titled Fate/stay night Réalta Nua (Irish for "new stars"), which features the Japanese voice actors from the anime series, was released for the PlayStation 2 and later for download on Windows as a trilogy covering the three main story lines. Réalta Nua is also ported to the PlayStation Vita. On October 28, 2005, Type-Moon released a sequel to Fate/stay night, titled Fate/hollow ataraxia. Its plot is set half a year after the events of Fate/stay night.
Originally released in early 2004 for the Japanese PC, Fate Stay Night is an interactive adult visual novel which tells its tale by way of graphics, dialogue, and text. The player watches the story unfold and interacts occasionally by selecting choices which affect the outcome and eventual conclusion. The PS2 conversion of the game is a family-safe update which removes the nudity from the original but adds voice acting to accompany the dialogue in the adventure.
Shirou Emiya is a wannabe sorcerer who has no knack for the ways of magic. Orphaned at a young age and adopted by a sorcerer named Kiritsugu Emiya, Shirou is nonetheless hopeless as mage. One day after cleaning his school's dojo, he witnesses a battle between two warriors named Archer and Lancer in the courtyard. Unbeknownst to Shirou at the time, his home city of Fuyuki plays host to a hidden war where sorcerers and their servants bout it out for ownership of the Holy Grail. Whomever holds the Grail is granted the power of wishes. The war takes place every six decades and has raged periodically for the past two centuries. As the story begins, a new war kicks off and Shirou finds himself embroiled in its carnage with a servant by his side named Saber.
Fate/stay Night [Realta Nua] is the much awaited PlayStation2 version of the immensely popular Type-Moon (Tsukihime) visual novel game released in 2004 for PC. The series also became popular as anime and manga releases. Using text, image and sound the game conveys an intriguing and fascinating story with complex characters. With additional happenings and with full voice, the PlayStation2 version is taking the game to a whole new level.
The story revolves around the war of the Holy Grail, a legendary and ancient relic said to grant the worthy the fulfilment of any wish. The rules are simple: seven magicians (Masters) accompanied by one Servant each shall fight to the death and the sole surviving team may approach the Grail.
Thrown into this brutal ritual is upper secondary student Emiya Shiroh and what once was commonplace is now replaced by the impossible.
With scenario writer Nasu Kinoko and graphic designer Takeuchi Takashi among others, you are now given the chance to explore a whole new world on your PlayStation2™.
