Haruhi Suzumiya is the general name for a series of light novels written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito and which were adapted into other media. Initially released in Japan in 2003 with the novel The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, it was followed by ten additional volumes, an anime television series adaptation, four separate manga series, an animated film, two original net animation series and several video games.
After the anime adaptation airing in 2006, publishing company Kadokawa Shoten received various offers for licensing both the novels and their various adaptations. The novels are licensed for English language release in the United States by Little, Brown and Company, for young readers by Yen Press and the anime adaptation was licensed for North American distribution by Kadokawa Pictures USA division which then sublicensed production and distribution to Bandai Entertainment.
The story follows the narrator and male protagonist Kyon, a cynical and incredulous student entering high school, who is dragged along by the title character and female protagonist Haruhi Suzumiya (who is Kyon's classmate). She is an eccentric girl seeking supernatural phenomena and figures such as aliens, time travelers, and espers.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi: This time Haruhi is a super-game-producer. She forces the SOS brigade to make the best game in the world. What kind of game will it be?
In the Playstation 2 Suzumiya Haruhi game, the SOS-Bridgade's new challenge is the creation of a video game worthy of Haruhi's refined taste and esteemed judgment. Three types of video games may be created for Haruhi as follows:
- An RPG in the style of the olden 8-bit Dragon Quest games
- A tactical strategy game that's a clone of the Super Robot Wars titles
- A Princess Maker-esque game where a girl such as Mikuru is raised
Players take on the role of Kyon and the game is viewed from his perspective but the other members of the SOS-Brigade are fair game as everyone cooperates to create the perfect video game.
The limited edition of Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi is packaged with a bonus FIGMA Suzumiya Haruhi posable action figure from Max Factory which includes an extra Haruhi head, eight extra hands, a blade weapon, and a mounting stand.
